The first half of the Spring term we will be studying the Geography of Mexico. We will be looking at:
-
Location – where Mexico is in the world, which continent it is in, and the countries and seas around it
-
Physical geography – mountains, volcanoes, deserts, rainforests, rivers, and coastlines
-
Climate – different climate zones and how weather varies across the country
-
Human geography – major cities (including Mexico City), population, and ways people live
-
Maps and skills – using atlases, maps, and globes to find places and key features
-
Comparisons – similarities and differences between Mexico and the UK
This helps children understand how place, climate, and landscape affect how people live.
We will also be studying and learning about life in the Mayan Civilisation.
-
Who the Maya were – an ancient civilisation that lived in Central America, including parts of modern-day Mexico
-
Where and when – locating the Maya region on a map and learning that the civilisation existed over 1,000 years ago
-
Everyday life – homes, clothing, food (such as maize), and family life
-
Cities and buildings – pyramids, temples, and city-states like Chichén Itzá
-
Religion and beliefs – gods, ceremonies, and the importance of religion in daily life
-
Writing and numbers – Maya hieroglyphs, calendars, and their number system
-

The learning helps children understand how the Maya lived and why they were an important civilisation.
