Year 5 Class Information Page
Welcome to Year 5's Class Information page!
Below you will find all of the information that you need about Year 5 and what is needed and expected in terms of P.E., homework, spellings and reading!
English and Maths will be taught by Mrs. Luke. The afternoons will be taught by a number of subject specific specialists as well:
P.E: Mr. Crawshaw
Spanish: Senorita Andrea
Music: Mrs. Kenyon
Science: Mrs. Van Duivenvoorde
Computing: Mrs. Bester
History: Mrs. Earnshaw
Geography: Mr. Kenyon
Please make sure your child brings their PE kit into school on the first day of each half term where it can be kept in their lockers. For this term, children will be doing Lacrosse on a Wednesday with Coach Dave and PE with Mr. Crawshaw on a Thursday. Many of our P.E. lessons will take place outside and so please provide your child with an outdoor kit as well as their indoor one.
Please note that if your child does not wear the correct P.E. kit, or keeps on forgetting it then a letter will be sent home informing you of this.
Homework teaches our pupils to work independently and develop self-discipline, whilst at the same time encouraging children to take initiative and responsibility for completing a task. We encourage all parents to have an active role in their child's education through homework which helps you to evaluate your child's progress.
Homework is given out every Wednesday.
Spellings - spellings Year 5/6 rules, but also revision of Year 3/4 spellings. Short bursts of spelling practice of new words every night is best for learning them! Spelling test on Monday with Mrs. Hilton! Mrs. Hilton will also give the children their next weeks spelling on a Monday as well.
Homework to be completed by the following Wednesday. This gives children ample time to complete their tasks even if they have clubs/activities on at the weekend or may be visiting other relatives.
Listening to your child read as often as possible is essential in Year 5. This only needs to be a short paragraph with you asking some questions about what your child has read to make sure they have understood what the text was about. We expect children to read a minimum of 4 times a week to an adult who can ask them appropriate questions. This must be recorded in your children’s reading record and handed into school in the morning.
