Science

At Holy Trinity we have a broad and balanced curriculum, rich in knowledge and creativity, accessible for all. Our science teaching aims to give children a strong understanding of the world around them, whilst acquiring the specific skills and knowledge to help them think scientifically. Wherever possible, we intend to deliver lessons where children learn through varied scientific investigations.

Some of our topics which are studied in Key Stage One are revisited in further detail throughout Key Stage Two. This model allows children to build up on their prior knowledge which in turn increases enthusiasm for the topics, whilst embedding the information into their long term memory.

We want our pupils to be fluent with using a range of equipment and undertaking the steps of an experiment. This ensures that by Upper Key Stage Two, children have the independence and confidence when planning their own experiments and they are able to choose the best equipment to successfully carry out their experiments.

World Science Day - 11th November 2024

Every year group celebrated World Science Day by completing a range of exciting and challenging science experiments. These encouraged the children to be curious and interested in the world around them in order to develop their inquisitive minds! Here are just a few examples!

 CREST AWARDS AT HOLY TRINITY

CREST is the British Science Association's scheme for STEM project work that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers!

All SuperStar challenges          Primary challenges (ages 3-11)       CREST SuperStar Passport

Our new science club aims to provide our children with the stepping stones to becoming amazing scientists. Typically completed by 3-11 year olds, CREST Star and SuperStar challenges relate to everyday experiences. Children complete eight activities to gain a CREST Award, with each activity taking between 45 minutes and one hour to complete.

STEM Specific Investigations

Need to challenge yourself in lots of ways at once? STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) investigations are perfect for this. You'll probably need  a parent to help you with these challenges - but learning is better together anyway!

If you manage to complete all the investigations please bring the Challenge form in to show Mrs Payne or Mrs Gillett
