In each class, the children learn about specific RE topics of work alongside work that links with our current Assembly theme, covering 1 of our 7 values. Each class displays these activities as well as in their classrooms and other display areas such as the school hall. For further details on the topics studied in each class, please refer to Class specific pages or to the RE curriculum section of the website by clicking here:

R.E

Reception

For the Spring term, our focus questions in RE will be Which stories are special and why? and Why is Easter special to Christians? We will be reading many stories from The Bible including David and Goliath and the Parable of the Two Sons. We will be exploring why these stories are special and what messages they are trying to tell. We will then move on to exploring the Christian celebration of Easter and reading the Easter story. We will then celebrate with the rest of the school at our Easter Service.

Our Christian Value for Spring One is WISDOM. We will be exploring what it means to be wise and looking at a short story about a Wise Old Owl.

Year 1 Autumn 2

Within our whole school worship, we will be exploring the Christian Value of  Generosity and learning how and why we can be a good friend to others as well as how we can resolve issues within our friendship groups. We will continue to learn more about the meaning of the Holy Trinity and revise what we have learnt so far this school year about our 7 Christian Values and what they mean to us.

We will also be learning and practicing our songs and lines to prepare for our KS1 Nativity production called 'It's a Baby!'

Year 2 Autumn 2

In our class R.E lessons this half term, we will be learning and finding out all about how Good News is shared within the Bible as well as understanding the importance of the Nativity story. We will read a range of Bible stories that demonstrate what God is like and the ways in which Christians live their lives because of this. We will also be learning and practicing our songs and lines to prepare for our KS1 Nativity production called 'It's a Baby!'

Year 3 Autumn 2

This half term's Christian Value is GENEROSITY

This half term we are exploring the Christian value of GENEROSITY. We have talked about what this might look like in to today's world. We discussed what Jesus's friends were like and how they served Jesus. What can we learn from them? We will be guided to lead a good life and we will be walking in Jesus's footsteps by always showing our creativity.

Proverbs 19:17
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

Other Class Work

In addition to this, we will be exploring How Noah sows us how to follow God. We will make clear links between the story of Noah and the idea of covenant. We will also think about the promises in the story of Noah and promises that Christians make at a wedding ceremony. We will also make links between the story of Noah and how we live in school and the wider world.

"Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity."

Year 4

This Spring term our Christian Value is...

Humility

Definition of Humility for children:

Humility is a core Christian value. It is key to how Christians relate to each other. It reflects our deepest understanding of what God has done for us.

Ephesians 4:2: "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love."

1. It means not thinking much about ourselves

2. It means recognising people as children of God

Everyone is made in the image of God.

3. It means holding lightly to our own sense of self-worth

4. It means maintaining a relationship with God

CS Lewis wrote: "A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you." Humble people don't look down, they look up, and what they see of the vast love of God for his creation conditions how they see everyone else.

In class our R.E. question will be -L2.5: Why do Christians call the day Jesus died ‘Good Friday?’

Our key objectives will focus on...

  • The word ‘Salvation’, and that Christians believe Jesus came to ‘save’ or ‘rescue’ people, e.g. by showing them how to live
    • Offer informed suggestions about what the events of Holy Week mean to Christians.
    • Give examples of what Christians say about the importance of the events of Holy Week

Year 5

Our Christian value in Spring 1 is Wisdom.  We will be examining how as Christians we believe true wisdom comes from God. In the Bible wisdom is seen both as a gift from God and a characteristic of God. In his parables Jesus taught that placing trust in God and recognising what is of value in life brings fulfilment.

In RE lessons we will be finding out more about the religion of Islam. We will be researching what it means to be a Muslim in Britain today, as well as finding out more about this World religion. We will look at the similarities and differences between the three monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Year 6

This Spring Term in Year 6, we will be learning about the importance of Wisdom.  As Christians, we believe that wisdom is revealed throughout the Bible and supremely in the person and life of Jesus Christ. Through Jesus’ teaching we are given an insight into the nature of God and the way in which He means us to live.

James 3:13

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

How can we demonstrate our value of Wisdom?

  • To respect other people and their beliefs and values
  • Think about how having wisdom in life helps us to be better Christians
  • Having wisdom in our lives helps for a better world and future

In class we will also be discovering - U2.7: Why do Hindus want to be good?
